Empowering women’s health with health and wellness coaching.

May 28th marks an important day for women’s health, as we celebrate International Day of Action on Women’s Health. This day was first observed in 1987 to raise awareness about the various health issues faced by women around the world and advocate for their rights to access quality healthcare. From reproductive health to mental health, this special day recognizes the importance of addressing all aspects of a woman’s well-being.

We’re being proactive and beginning conversations now in the lead up to May 28. We’d like to invite you to consider how Health and Wellness Coaches can partner with individuals and organizations to promote and protect women’s health!

The top women’s health issues globally are influenced by various factors including socioeconomic status, access to healthcare, lifestyle, and cultural practices.

Here are the top 4 Women’s Health Issues and an exploration of how Health and Wellness Coaches can support them:

(1) Cardiovascular Health: Did you know that cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally for women, accounting for approximately 35% of female deaths worldwide (Source: WHO).

Heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death among women in Europe. Risk factors include smoking, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes.

Health and Wellness Coaches can collaborate with women to develop customized lifestyle plans to reduce cardiovascular risk factors. This may include implementing dietary changes, incorporating regular physical activity, managing weight, and adopting stress-reduction techniques. Health coaches also provide accountability and motivation to help women stay committed to their heart health goals.

Research published in the Annals of Family Medicine showed that women who received health coaching interventions experienced improvements in cardiovascular risk factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and body weight.

(2) Mental Health: Did you know? Globally, approximately 264 million people suffer from depression, with women being more affected than men. Additionally, anxiety disorders are the most prevalent mental health disorder among women worldwide (Source: WHO).

Mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and stress-related conditions affect a significant number of women in Europe. Access to mental health services and stigma reduction efforts are crucial for addressing these issues.

Health and Wellness Coaches play a crucial role in supporting women’s mental well-being by offering tools and strategies to manage stress, anxiety, and depression. Through coaching sessions, individuals can explore coping mechanisms, mindfulness practices, and holistic approaches to improve mental resilience and emotional balance.

✅ A meta-analysis published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology found that wellness coaching interventions were associated with significant reductions in symptoms of depression, and anxiety, and increased quality of life among women.

(3) Reproductive Health:  Did you know? An estimated 214 million women of reproductive age in developing regions want to avoid pregnancy and are not using a modern contraceptive method (Source: Guttmacher Institute)

Reproductive Health issues include menstrual health, access to contraception, preconception care, fertility issues, and menopause management.

Health and Wellness Coaches can provide personalized support and guidance to women navigating reproductive health issues. They can offer education on menstrual health, contraception options, and menopause management strategies. Additionally, coaches can help women adopt healthy lifestyle practices that support reproductive health, such as balanced nutrition and stress management techniques.

✅ According to a recent study published by PubMed, women who received wellness coaching on reproductive health reported improved menstrual health, increased awareness of contraception options, and better management of menopause symptoms.

(4) Cancer: Did you know? Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women (Source: IARC).

Breast cancer is followed by colorectal cancer, lung cancer, cervical cancer, and ovarian cancer. Early detection through screening programs and access to effective treatment are essential for improving outcomes.

Health and Wellness Coaches can offer comprehensive support to women affected by cancer, including survivorship coaching, emotional support, and lifestyle interventions. Coaches assist individuals in navigating the physical and emotional challenges of cancer treatment, promoting self-care practices, and empowering women to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.

✅ A systematic review published in Supportive Care in Cancer demonstrated the positive impact of wellness coaching on cancer survivors’ quality of life, emotional well-being, and treatment adherence.

Promoting Women’s Health in the Workplace

Health and Wellness Coaches are instrumental in advancing workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives by addressing women’s health needs in the workplace. By offering wellness programs focused on reproductive health, mental well-being, cardiovascular health, and cancer prevention, among many health issues, organizations demonstrate their commitment to supporting the holistic health of their female employees.

Moreover, prioritizing women’s health in the workplace contributes to overall employee well-being and productivity. By addressing health issues proactively, organizations can reduce absenteeism, enhance morale, and create a supportive work environment where all employees feel valued and cared for.
